Meet My Honorees:

Bob and my mother, Sharron, and Rudy the dog at the Rhododendron Gardens in Portland (May 2006).
I visited Bob and my mother just one week before the race. In spite of some rougher times earlier this spring, Bob is
feeling stronger and finding the energy to get outdoors more often. He likes to take Rudy for walks and go out to eat at his favorite restaurants. At home in between naps, Bob can often be found mowing the lawn or raiding the refrigerator!

Norma enjoying the outdoors.
As an adoptee, I learned early on that family ties are more than bloodlines. As an adult, I chose to keep adopting people into my soul family. Norma falls into that category. I was lucky to know her first as my counselor, and over time I came to appreciate that her influence in my life has been greater than just that. She has been an inspiration and a teacher to me for years, breaching distance and time. Her true-life journey into health is nothing short of incredible.

Matt and his perfect match, Claire, training for a triathalon! (March 2006).
These two amaze me. Big hearts. I guess big lungs, too...running, biking and swimming...I'm exhausted just thinking about it. And, yes, Matt is my adult-adopted brother.

Janet's photo and ice-skates at her memorial. (November 2003).
Janet left this life in a way that seemed too soon. Her spirit left an impression on me that I had not fully realized until she was gone. I love this display of her smiling face and the ice-skates that she kept in the trunk of her car. She was a fun-loving girl from Montreal living in Santa Barbara.
